   Visit to Dignity Lifestyle Township
The Consumer & Civic Affairs Committee arranged a full day visit to Dignity Lifestyle Township, Neral for a small group of 18 members by AC bus on Sunday, March 17. We departed at 7.00 a.m. with a brief halt and on reaching the Institute at 10.30 a.m. we were welcomed by the Supervisor who led us into the dining hall for breakfast. It was a pleasure to have amongst us Mrs. Mithoo Coorlawala (age 95), a very active senior citizen. Amazing!! And we hope we remain the same and can be surrounded by children and grand-children.

Thereafter, the Supervisor gave a talk on the Institute. The idea and concept is very good and worth considering before loneliness sets in or any dreaded disease afflicts anyone. The Home is a “home away from home” for several whose children are away.

We had pleasure of meeting some of the residents and had an opportunity to interact with them. As Dementia, Alzheimer and mental patients require regular assistance they are housed in a purpose-built block where they are cared for by local nurses.

We saw that a fair number of people opt to move into a retirement retreat, where parents of affluent children well settled abroad, like to live in a home which provides vigilant security, prompt state-of-art medical facilities, clubhouses for entertainment, and most of all an environment where people understand each other, connect and relate with their contemporaries and are well taken care of.

We had lunch and thereafter spent some time at the Club House, which is equipped with a gymnasium, library and Jacuzzi. We relaxed for a while, mingled with the Group and then departed. Everyone had an enjoyable time.

This indeed was an interesting and informative outing, which gave us good exposure and certainly an eye opener as to what is expected if one had to live in these fast growing retirement homes.

We are sorry to have disappointed some members who wanted to visit Neral on this trip. In future, Members, please remember to register your names well in advance to avoid disappointment.
